How can I pass on my assets while I'm still alive ?

If you wish to anticipate your succession, you can give a part of your assets to your children by way of a donation. However, make sure to take a number of precautions to avoid that, for example, a donation to one of your children is later contested by another. Also, you will want to avoid putting yourself in a vulnerable or dependent position. You also have to give heed to the rules relating to certain types of donations. For example, if you pass away within three years after having physically donated an item of your personal property, your heirs will be subject to succession duties. The same principle applies in case of a donation made by way of a bank transfer.

The notary will be able to advise you on what is most appropriate in your case, taking into account your assets, number of children and the situation of each child.
