How can I give my children equal treatment?
The law allows you either to give equal treatment to your children or preferential treatment to some of them. In the first case, you may first transfer to all your children an equal share of the inheritance. Moreover, you may agree with the child to whom you pass on an asset in your lifetime that he or she will pay compensation to his or her brothers and sisters in exchange for this donation. Alternatively, you may agree with the child who has received the donation that he or she should renounce his or her share of the inheritance or (which is generally preferable) should renounce only his reserved portion. In the latter case, you may share the remaining assets among the other children by will (or by an inheritance agreement). The child who benefits from the donation may then no longer claim a right to a reserved portion of the inheritance.
