Within certain limits, you may influence the legal effects of a donation between living parties on a succession. Thus, you may sign a contract with the beneficiary whereby he or she renounces his or her share of the inheritance or (which is generally preferable) his or her reserved share. This allows you to exclude the application of his or her legal right of inheritance. Similarly, you may provide that any assets transferred during your lifetime diminish the reserved share or the value of assets which will be subsequently assigned to him or her when the succession is opened (by reducing the reserved share or by a limited renunciation of the reserved share).
